There is no better way to appreciate the history of a club than here it from the people who where involved. 1985 was a time of 3 TV channels, trim phones, Grandstand and Match of the Day on BBC1 and not widely used email certainly no internet.
The Birth of the Blues
A chance meeting between to OLD team mates began the “Birth of Blue”. Phil Selby and Wilf Wheeler began chatting about local soccer talent at school level and were amazed that there were no school soccer played at Bramcote. A couple of meetings after a training session / trail was arranged fro Sunday 24th October 1985. The rest of the season we prepared and played friendlys at U11 and U12 levels. We played some of the best teams around and did well to start in the Young Elizabethan League (YEL). Phil took the U11’s and Wilf took the U13’s. The first season saw Phil’s team pick up the league Cup Runners-up spot whilst Wilf’s team took the title at U13 level. Not bad for an area now known for it’s soccer prowess.
From those early days the Club had the backing of the Bramcote Hills Garage on Derby Road.
From these first two teams, the club in 1992/93 season was running 5 teams in the Y.E.L. and one team in the Notts Youth league.
Denise Bailey (Editor of the Christmas news letter 1992).
This poem was printed on player’s club registration cards in the early 1990’s to inspire them in not just playing football but as an attitude to life.
Will all players read and learn this!!!
If you think you are beaten you are
If you think you dare not, you won’t,
If you like to win,, but you think you can’t,
It’s almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out of this world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think higher to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
to the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins
is the man who thinks he can.
